Free, and honest about what free does not include
Everything this site does costs nothing, because everything happens in your browser. What we cannot give you is a redirect service — and that is the only thing a paid QR product really sells.

Elsewhere
Editable destinations and scan analytics need a hosted redirect, which means a subscription and an ongoing dependency.
- You can also run this yourself: point a static code at a short URL on your own domain and redirect from there. You keep the flexibility and own the failure mode.
Why this can be free
Because it barely uses a server. The encoding and rendering happen in your browser, so generating a thousand codes costs us the same as generating none. What we pay for is hosting the pages, which display advertising can cover.
Paid QR products are not overcharging for arithmetic. They are charging for a redirect service that has to keep resolving for as long as your printed codes exist, plus the infrastructure to log and report every scan. That is a genuine, ongoing cost — and it is exactly the thing we do not do.
When you should pay someone else
We would rather say this plainly than pretend static codes suit everyone. Pay for a dynamic service when the destination genuinely has to change after printing, or when per-scan analytics drive a decision you will actually make. A six-week campaign across several channels is a reasonable case.
Do not pay for one because a printed item feels important. Importance is an argument for a code that cannot be switched off by a third party, which is the opposite of a subscription.
The option in between
Point a free static code at a short path on a domain you already own, and redirect from there. You can change the destination whenever you like, forever, with no subscription and nobody else in the middle. Your own server logs give you the scan counts. The only requirement is somewhere to host a redirect, and if you have a website you already have it.
