Cookie Policy

We use as little as we can get away with. Nothing non-essential loads until you agree to it, and you can change your mind from any page.

1.What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device — computer, tablet or phone — when you visit a website. They are widely used to make sites work, to remember preferences, and to give site owners information about how their pages are used.

A cookie set by the site you are visiting is called "first-party"; one set by another service embedded in the page, such as an advertising or analytics provider, is "third-party". Cookies may be "session" cookies, deleted when you close your browser, or "persistent" cookies that remain until they expire or you delete them.

We also use local storage, and third parties may use pixels and web beacons. This policy refers to all of these collectively as "cookies".

This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy at https://upfrog.online/privacy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.

2.How we use them

We use browser storage to keep the Site working and to remember your preferences, and — where you have agreed — third-party services use cookies to measure how the Site is used and to display advertising that covers our running costs.

The cookies involved fall into three groups:

  • Essential. Necessary for the Site to function and to remember the choices you make, including your cookie choice itself. These cannot be switched off, because switching them off is what they record.
  • Analytics. Help us understand which pages are useful and where the interface confuses people, so we can improve both.
  • Advertising. Used by our advertising partner to select ads, cap how often you see the same one, and measure whether advertising worked.

The QR code generator itself needs no cookies at all. Everything it does happens in your browser, and the content you type is never written to a cookie or to storage of any kind — it exists only in the page's memory while the tab is open.

3.What we set ourselves

Two preferences, both kept in local storage rather than cookies, neither transmitted to us and neither capable of identifying you:

NameTypePurposeDuration
themeEssential preferenceRemembers whether you chose light or dark modeUntil you clear site data
consent.adsEssential preferenceRemembers your answer to the consent prompt so you are not asked again on every pageUntil you change or clear it

Beyond these two, every cookie described below comes from a third party and is only ever set after you have accepted it.

4.Advertising cookies

Google AdSense is currently active and loads only after you accept it.

Where advertising is active, third-party vendors including Google use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits.

These cookies are typically set from Google advertising domains rather than from ours, including doubleclick.net, googlesyndication.com and googleadservices.com. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Some ads may be personalised to inferred interests; others are non-personalised and chosen only from the content of the page or a general location. Where personalised advertising requires consent, it is not served unless you have given it.

5.Analytics cookies

Google Analytics 4 is currently active and loads only after you accept it.

Google Analytics 4 collects aggregated statistics about how the Site is used — pages viewed, session length, general traffic source, approximate region, device and browser. In Google Analytics 4, IP addresses are not logged or stored by default.

Microsoft Clarity is not currently loaded on this site. It is documented here because we may enable it, and if we do, nothing will be set until you have accepted it.

Microsoft Clarity records interaction data such as mouse movement, clicks, scrolling and pages visited, and produces heatmaps and session replays. It masks input fields automatically and we have not disabled that masking, so it is not intended to capture what you type. Microsoft's handling of this data is described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement at microsoft.com/privacy/privacystatement.

6.Cookies at a glance

The table below lists the cookies these services typically set when they are enabled and you have accepted them. Names and durations are set by the providers and change from time to time, so treat this as a good-faith guide rather than a guarantee.

CookieSet byTypePurposeTypical duration

7.Consent, and changing your mind

Where the law requires it, we show a consent prompt before any non-essential cookie is set. Declining means the relevant scripts are never requested at all — they are not loaded and then told to behave differently.

We implement Google Consent Mode v2 with ad storage, ad user data, ad personalisation and analytics storage all defaulting to denied until you choose otherwise. For visitors in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, advertising consent is gathered through a Google-certified consent management platform where that is required.

You can change your decision at any time from the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page. The change takes effect immediately, and the page reloads so that anything already loaded is unloaded.

8.Controlling cookies in your browser

Independently of our prompt, every major browser lets you view, delete and block cookies, including third-party cookies specifically. Each publishes its own instructions:

  • Google Chrome — support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
  • Mozilla Firefox — support.mozilla.org/kb/enhanced-tracking-protection-firefox-desktop
  • Apple Safari — support.apple.com/guide/safari/manage-cookies-sfri11471
  • Microsoft Edge — support.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge

Blocking cookies will not affect the QR code generator, which works identically either way. It may mean you are asked for your cookie choice again, since that answer is itself stored on your device.

9.Opting out with industry tools

  • Google ad personalisation — myadcenter.google.com, also reachable at adssettings.google.com.
  • Many participating vendors — optout.aboutads.info, or youradchoices.com. For mobile apps, youradchoices.com/appchoices.
  • European users — youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Google Analytics, across every website — install the opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

10.Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track

We honour Global Privacy Control. Where your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising in that browser.

Some browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" setting. Because no common industry standard emerged for how sites should interpret it, we do not act on DNT. GPC is a defined standard, which is why we act on that one instead.

11.What we deliberately do not use

The absences are choices rather than oversights, so they are worth stating:

  • No fingerprinting. We do not attempt to identify a device from its fonts, canvas rendering, screen dimensions or hardware.
  • No social network tracking pixels. There are no share widgets that report your visit back to a platform.
  • No A/B testing or personalisation cookies. Every visitor is served the same pages.
  • No font CDN. Fonts are served from our own domain, so loading a page does not announce your visit to a third party.
  • No cookie is required for the generator to work.

12.Changes to this policy

We will update this page if the services we use change, or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons, and revise the date shown at the top.
